Best Christmas Markets in Germany – Burghausen Edition

Best Christmas Markets in Germany – Burghausen Edition

Having lived in the United States for such a long time means that we missed out on the wonderful Advent season for years. Sure – we always had an Advent wreath, decorated our house with all the Christmassy stuff and made our own mulled wine. But nothing compares to actually experiencing the best Christmas markets in Germany yourself.  The hot drink that warms your frozen hands. Brats that make your mouth water. The sound of Christmas carols from an organ, topped with the delicious smell of roasted almonds. Christimas time doesn’t get any better than this, right? So today I’m going to share my best Christmas markets in Germany and in and around Burghausen that are on my To-Be-Visited-list. What’s on yours?

Merry Christmas & Frohe Weihnachten

„Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be here.“Merry Christmas May your days be filled with joy and laughter, candy, cookies, and delicious food, thoughtful presents, quiet moments and many hours spent with family and friends. Make sure to enjoy each and every second of Christmas 2015!

Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

Tina

Frohe Weihnachten & Merry Christmas

Since I’m already feeling tired talking about anything Christmas-related,  I’ve decided not to bore you with a detailed explanation of how German Christmas differs from Christmas in the US. That’s why I’ll keep it short today.

Cookies for Santa

Santa Claus is everywhere right now: you turn a corner and he is already there, trying to get a bite of someone’s gingerbread man!

Christmas is still more than a week away, but Santa Claus has already been very busy, rushing from one event to the other: pictures with Santa at school (he is the only one smiling in our pictures though…), breakfast with Santa on a boat tour or a train ride with Santa to the North Pole. And while you are out shopping for Christmas presents at the mall, don’t forget to give him a little something for the children in need.  Santa even made an appearance at my daughter’s cookie workshop, declaring that his favorite cookie is a gingerbread man. Hearing this my daughter quickly reached for her freshly decorated gingerbread man, held it really close and asked: Mommy, can we go home now?
